Our
Story
Alternatives for Better Living is a Napa Valley 503(c) Non-Profit. It was started by a psychotherapist and an addictions counselor in 1998 with the goal to provide a kinder, more respectful approach to treatment. Alternatives for Better Living was created to make services more available and accessible, particularly to people with the greatest need and the fewest resources. One of our mottos is… “Treating people with respect.” Our clients often succeed in part because here they are treated as worthwhile human beings who are struggling with life. At Alternatives we believe that all of us are alike in that we are each seeking happiness and satisfaction in our lives. We succeed or fail in this effort because of what we have experienced in the past, what we know now, and how we feel about ourselves. Therefore, the service we provide at Alternatives is to give people the tools they need to build successful and responsible lives for themselves.
Among Alternatives many achievements is starting Napa County’s pre-plea drug court, starting a 52 week Parenting class for parents convicted of child endangerment and starting adolescent Drug MediCal treatment in Napa. We are the largest provider of batterer’s treatment (domestic violence convictions) in Napa County, and provide the only certified outpatient Substance Use program in the county outside of services provided by Napa County. All of our services are available to the general public and to court ordered clients. Most of our services are provided in English and Spanish.

All services are delivered under the supervision of Joni N.
